One such spiritual yet replenishing spots have been identified by the well-known Bhakti saint “Adi Shankaracharya” 1200 years ago which are the four spiritual sites in the four directions
in India – Badrinath, Rameswaram, Puri, Dwarka temples. This Yatra is being considered sacred and followed by our ancestors and so the Uttarakhand government had focussed on developing the infrastructural requirements joining hands with the Tourism department and NGOs to facilitate the travel of pilgrims. Best Time to Visit
Char Dham Yatra covers the entire Indian subcontinent but it is known that there would not be major climatic differences. The months of April and May will be the initial months when the Yatra is being undertaken by many people. June month will see a moderate flow of pilgrims for conducting rituals but the months of July and August can be neglected for traveling as the monsoon will be rigorous leading to floods in most of the places encircling the Yatra. You should remember that it is only during the month of July 2013, the floods devastated the holy places of Badrinath and Kedarnath, leading to great havoc. It will be open till the last week of October after that it will be closed due to the retreating monsoons, where the climate will be more severe.
Need for Physical Fitness
On the physical fitness criterion, one needs to be physically ok to take this Yatra as it involves some physical strain. People who have a fear of heights, or who cannot walk long distances or people who have high blood pressure can keep themselves away from this Yatra. There is indeed the availability of medical professionals and Medical NGOs who can diagnose and manage the health of the patient, but the Yatra needs the necessary level of stamina and inner strength.
Accommodation and Food
You can see a lot of hotels and restaurants that are willing to provide accommodation and food at competitively low prices during the season. But, non-veggies will find it difficult as non-veg food items and alcoholic beverages are not allowed into the region.
Things to Carry
Warm clothes, raincoats, torch, muffler, and other dressing items according to the seasonal visit you undergo. Plan your journey two to three months before starting the Yatra.
Instant energy items like glucose, nuts or fruits or electrolyte drinks to prevent fainting or energy drop.
Chocolates can be taken by diabetic patients as they may feel drop-down in sugar levels during the travel.
Wear clothes that might facilitate your travel. Prevent wearing traditional attire as it would be embarrassing.
Traveling in groups may be preferred than traveling alone. Either book with a travel agent or take a tour with your colleague or family members.
